GARDENING PHILOSOPHY:

By using plants well suited to each particular environment and your space, we create low maintenance landscapes so you can focus on enjoying your outdoor space.

Our focus is on shrubs and perennial plants, incorporating both ornamentals and edibles.

We also like to incorporate native plants especially in woodland settings. And we use many plants that attract pollinators, birds, and wildlife to your garden.

We partner with a local irrigation contractor to make our gardens waterwise using drip irrigation.

We do our best to create deer resistant plantings when needed.

Jodi has an Art degree from Emily Carr University and enjoys creating balanced attractive garden compositions with year round interest.

Gardens should be outdoor spaces where you want to spend your time immersed in the natural world.

WATERWISE GARDENING

On Saltspring our summers are very dry. We use a combination of drought tolerant plants and natural mulches to reduce water evaporation. We can also coordinate with our partners at Gulf Islands Irrigation to get you set up with a low water use drip irrigation system and/or a rainwater catchment system.

FRUIT TREES

We love fruit trees in the garden, just a few or small orchards. Fruit trees are a quintessential part of the gulf islands garden. Pruning fruit trees is important for fruit production and to keep trees healthy. We can help you train young trees or maintain older ones.

ATTRACT WILDLIFE

Gardens are a wonderful way to experience our many species of birds, insects and other wildlife. We use many plants that are beautiful to look at and also attract wildlife. Water features are also a great way to experience wildlife, especially birds in the home garden.

DEER RESISTANT PLANTS

Fencing is the best way to deer proof a garden but sometimes fencing is not an option. There are some plants that deer don't like and generally leave alone. In some areas of Saltspring the deer pressure is so heavy fencing may be the best option.

NATIVE PLANTS

The plants that are the best suited to our gulf island environment are the ones that grow here naturally. Native plants can handle our wet winters and dry summers and can be a water wise way to garden. Many of our natives are practical and beautiful additions to the garden. Some are edible too.

EDIBLE & MEDICINAL PLANTS

Even if you don't want a full vegetable garden we can easily incorporate edible plants into your landscape. There are many edible plants that also have attractive ornamental qualities. We install raised veggie beds and herbs and medicinal plants can also be grown in the home landscape.
